The hose stays put in desired length when pulled and retracts in similar way as a car seat belt works.

Just pull the hose, use it, give a slight tug to retract when done and it rolls up automatically.

As far as the longevity of it I don’t know but it appears to me it’s going to be here for a while I will leave another repost review at the end of the summer to see how it worked out actually at the end of the Fall we keep all water on right till the end. Yes I recommend this product

I have it mounted IN my garage so I know I likely won’t have some of the potential rust issues that others have mentioned. If it holds up well for a while, I’ll probably get another for our basement hose.

Seems fairly heavy duty due to the gauge of steel tube used. The paint or coating is very thick and durable as well.
